Hello I'm Ali. I'm an artist, producer and consultant working to facilitate a broad range of projects that promote and enhance health and wellbeing.
With a BA in Psychology and Philosophy I have long held an interest in what helps people live healthy, happy and meaningful lives, with my final project focusing on Environmental Psychology and the impact of design of halls of residence on student wellbeing.
I went on to work for nine years as an events producer and project coordinator for galleries, public art initiatives, record labels and documentary production companies around the UK, film festivals and design publishers in Berlin and street photographers in Japan. I also co-founded my own vintage design events business in London attracting 25,000 visitors over a five year period, developed my work as an artist and illustrator exhibiting internationally and worked as a photographer capturing people around the UK and Europe for publications such as The Guardian, The Independent and Vogue.
In 2012 I chose to redirect my creative and innovative skills back to organisations and projects promoting health and wellbeing, working since then on engagement and innovation projects for the NHS, community wellbeing events for social enterprises, as an artist on arts and wellbeing projects for charities and academic institutions, photographer promoting healthy ageing for think tanks and local authorities and a diversity of other roles on projects across the statutory, charity and voluntary sector that help people flourish.
I am passionate about Whole Person care and believe this joined up approach is vital to encouraging a state of health and wellbeing, so am always interested in working on projects that promote this. I am very engaged with the current movements and networks around Social Prescribing, Community Centred Care and Arts for Health, keep abreast of mind and body research and emerging disciplines such as Psychoneuroimmunology and Interpersonal Neurobiology and have a strong interest in approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy and Positive Psychology that offer techniques for people to self-manage stress and emotions and boost feelings of wellbeing.
Following my recent children's publication My Memory Forest with King's College, I am now especially interested in projects providing children with tools that build emotional resilience at an early age, and am particularly interested in further collaborations around this.
I am committed to ongoing learning and have completed an Interdisciplinary Award in Arts and Mental Health at King's College London as well as a number of courses in Behaviour Change for Health, the Mind & Body connection, Experience Based Co-Design, Oral History interviewing and Dementia Awareness as well as regularly attending health and wellbeing events and conferences across the UK. I am fully DBS checked.
I combine a unique multi-disciplinary background with highly innovative and creative thinking, network building and organisational abilities, robust knowledge of the health sector and the challenges it faces and strong insight into health psychology and recent health and wellbeing research.
I am always interested in making new connections and exploring potential opportunities - please drop me a line if you'd like to find out more about working together.
